Gill Hargreaves was born and grew up in North Staffordshire.
In 1960 she began her student days in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which in those days was situated in John Carpenter Street, just off Fleet Street, then the hub of the newspaper industry.
Her career began in the theatre, performing with the company ‘Prospect Productions’ in Oxford, Richmond, Yorkshire and finally at the Vaudeville Theatre, London.
